teeter - age unknown & baby ray

teeter - age unknown & baby ray

teeter - age unknown & baby ray

Teeter is a new momma, giving birth to "Baby Ray" on April 11. Teeter was heading to the slaughter house with a few other pregnant mares - Velvet and Alba. She arrived at the rescue on December 29 and she settled in to her new surroundings quite quickly. She seems happy to see us as she always ventures over to say hello. She loves to be near people but she's not fond of being touched yet. We will give her more time to just "be a horse" and will start working with her a bit more once "Baby Ray" settles in. They can be adopted together now or separately in the fall when Baby Ray is weaned.

Teeter's adoption fee is negotiable

alba - age unknown - 14.2HH

teeter - age unknown & baby ray

teeter - age unknown & baby ray

This beautiful cremello mare was saved from going to slaughter and she's pregnant! She's super sweet and started off a bit aloof while she was still figuring out where she is and why her world got turned upside down. We have been able to pet her quite a bit and she is first to the fence to greet us. She's at the bottom of the herd, just gentle and minds her own business all the time. She is due to foal near the end of May and we expect it will be a stunning baby!

Alba's adoption fee is negotiable

Velvet - age unknown & Timmy

teeter - age unknown & baby ray

Tucker - 2 years old - 13 hh

Velvet was a pregnant mare that was heading to the slaughter house with a few other pregnant mares - Teeter and Alba. She arrived at the rescue on December 29 and took a few weeks to settle in. Today, she is very happy to see us pull up to the pasture and with the others, ventures over to say hello. We can touch her face and neck but she seemed to be unhandled when she arrived.  She is super sweet, really loves being around people. She gave us the perfect colt on May 6, named Timmy. They can be adopted together now or separately in the fall when Timmy is weaned.

Velvet's adoption fee is negotiable

Tucker - 2 years old - 13 hh

Tucker - 2 years old - 13 hh

Tucker - 2 years old - 13 hh

Tucker is a 2 year old gelding and has a lot of spunk! He arrived as a stud colt December 29 and seemed quite scared and confused for a few days. He has since decided that humans aren't that scary and he regularly comes up to the fence to check us out a little closer. We are starting to develop a trusting relationship with him and he allows a few pets before walking away. He will be a little short, likely not getting any bigger than 14 HH. For now, he is quite content with good food, good shelter and fresh water.

Tucker's adoption fee is $750

kenny - 3 year old mare

Tucker - 2 years old - 13 hh

MACK & STAR - BONDED PAIR

Kenny is a gorgeous mare with a big personality. She is currently in training and is showing great promise. She is smart and willing but takes a little longer to trust. She is halter broke, stands tied and will be foot broke and trailer broke soon. She's learning a lot of new things right now and as she gets more comfortable we expect she will be an excellent project horse for someone with patience and kindness.

Kenny's adoption fee is $750 (will increase as her training progresses)

MACK & STAR - BONDED PAIR

Tucker - 2 years old - 13 hh

MACK & STAR - BONDED PAIR

Mack and Star are retired riding horses, aged 27 & 29. They both have cushings and require daily meds but are easy to handle. They must remain together as they are very bonded and have lived most of their lives together. They are easy to catch, easy to trim and love attention from humans.

Mack & Star's adoption fee is negotiable

junior (big ben) - 3 yrs/15.3 HH

Luffy (lou)-5 yrs/14 HH - adopted

Luffy (lou)-5 yrs/14 HH - adopted

This stunning gelding is 3 years old and appears to be part draft, about 15.3 HH. He came to us with an injury to his hind leg and has since developed stringhalt which leaves him with an unusual gait. He is not in pain but he would not make a good candidate for training to ride. If you're looking for a beautiful lawn ornament, he's your guy! He does not require any pain meds or medical attention at this time. He's still quite shy and needs a lot of work to gain his trust. He is not yet halter broke but he is a sweet guy that hangs out in the middle of the herd.

Junior's adoption fee is $500

Luffy (lou)-5 yrs/14 HH - adopted

Luffy (lou)-5 yrs/14 HH - adopted

*ADOPTED* Poor Luffy has had a lot going on this year. His owners contacted us after he suffered a suspected gunshot wound to his withers. We assisted with multiple vet visits and the infected wound just wouldn't heal properly. After several months of assisting them, the family decided to surrender him into our care. We had a specialized veterinarian perform another surgery on him and he finally has a clean bill of health. "Lou" is super gentle and kind and he deserves every chance we can give him for a full a happy forever home. He's a Fjord/ QH cross.

Draco - 5 yrs/14.2 HH

Luffy (lou)-5 yrs/14 HH - adopted

This 5 year old gelding is a fan favourite! Draco has the most beautiful blue eyes and a super sweet temperament. He came to us wild and unhandled but he was always curious and gentle, quick to trust humans and eager to get in line for treats. He's halter broke, gelded and getting handled a little more each day. His gentle demeanour makes us think he'd be a great addition to any herd, easily adapting to all the new horses as they arrive. He has a strong and stocky body, stands about 14.2 HH, and he seems sure footed and smart.

Draco's adoption fee is $750

denali - 4 YRS/15 HH

Tamaari - 22 YRS/15 HH

Denali (from the native Athabascan language meaning "the great one"). This gorgeous red dun gelding is 4 years old and is super gentle. He also arrived at the rescue in December of 2024 and he came in with an injury to his hind leg. We had it x-rayed to find out he has some ligament damage. He doesn't limp or favour it so he is sound but he should be monitored and will be suitable to train for light riding in his future. He also has several ulcers on his tongue which need time to heal so for now, we just let him hang out with his new friends.  He is not yet halter broke but he is easy to handle and catch, should be nice to train under saddle.

Denali's adoption fee is $1000

ember - 5 YRS/15 HH

Tamaari - 22 YRS/15 HH

Tamaari - 22 YRS/15 HH

Ember arrived at the rescue in December 2024. This gelding is about 5 years old and is a cautious boy, but once he knows you won't hurt him, he settles in for some soothing scratches and gentle pats. He is in good physical condition and is halter broke but he needs time to decompress and learn to trust. He loves to come close but it's on his own terms. He acts as though he's been handled roughly so a kind and gentle approach is a must. He would be a perfect match with our other cremello gelding, Draco. He may be green broke but he has not been tested yet.

Ember's adoption fee is $750

Tamaari - 22 YRS/15 HH

Tamaari - 22 YRS/15 HH

Tamaari - 22 YRS/15 HH

Tamaari, meaning "strength", arrived with Ember, Denali, Aponi and Agni on December 17, obviously confused and cautious. This old guy appears to be in his early 20's and definitely needed to put on some weight when he first arrived. We had his teeth done and overall, he's in fair condition apart from needing some good quality feed and lots of pets. Once you catch him, he is super quiet and stands tied very patiently. He seems like he's been used hard and just isn't really interested in working anymore so ideally we'd like a nice retirement home for him.

Tamaari's adoption fee is $1000

Ivy - 10 months - adopted

*ADOPTED* Ivy was born at the rescue to Willow, 8 months after Willow arrived. She will be one year old in June. We suspect her sire was Moon (photo of Moon on the Memory Wall page). Ivy is as special as they come, and absolutely loves people and other horses. She has a lot of personality and has been handled a lot. We are working on halter breaking her and lifting her feet, and will soon start loading her in and out of the trailer. She's a big and solid girl, we expect she will mature to be about 15.2 HH and she  is a beautiful strawberry roan color.

Ivy's adoption fee is $750

Willow (companion)- 26 yrs/15.2 hh

Meet Willow, the old grey mare that's been making babies her whole life. Willow and Moon (who is now on our Memory Wall page) came in as a bonded pair and she holds a special place in our hearts for so many reasons. Due to her age and her body condition, Willow will likely become a permanent resident at JRR unless we find the perfect forever home that will let her just be a horse. She was extremely fearful when we first met her but over several months we've been earning her trust and are able to hand feed her now. She has a very kind eye and a feisty spirit which makes her our resident warrior. She gave birth to Ivy in June 2024.

Willow's adoption fee is negotiable.

aponi - 25 YRS/15 HH

Aponi (from the Siksika/Blackfoot word apaniiwa meaning "butterfly") in December 2024 looking defeated and confused about being moved around. This quiet mare is about 25 years old and is still quite skinny. We had her teeth done and hopefully that helps her fill her belly and put on some weight. She is getting daily senior supplements and is in fair physical condition. She is probably broke to ride but we won't test her until she's had time to decompress and relax. She gets along with her herd mates quite well, and eagerly approaches for treats and pets.

Aponi's adoption fee is $750

Whiskey - 12 yrs / 15.1 HH

Whiskey and Lady are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. Whiskey is a 12 year old gelding and is best suited as a companion horse. He is halter broke and super friendly but he is not a good candidate for riding due to enlarged knees which MAY give him problems as he ages. He currently is sound and has no physical limitations.

Whiskey & Lady's adoption fee is $1200

(for the pair)

LADY - 14 YRS / 14 HH

venus (companion) - 26 yrs/15.1 hh

Whiskey and Lady are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. Lady is a 14 year old mare and is halter broke but can be hard to catch. She is a beautiful little Fjord x QH and is quite friendly. She is sound and has no physical limitations.

Whiskey & Lady's adoption fee is $1200

(for the pair)

venus (companion) - 26 yrs/15.1 hh

venus (companion) - 26 yrs/15.1 hh

Venus (formerly Foxie) was an owner surrender and arrived at JRR in May of 2024. She was severely underweight and with TLC she has blossomed into a beautiful old lady. She stands nice to get her feet and teeth done and all she needs now is specialized feed and pain management meds for her dropped fetlocks. She is a sweet and loving mare but remains a tad aloof, happy to hang out and get some treats and loving pets each day. Her supplements and meds cost about $400 a month. She will be up for adoption to the right home that will continue her treatments and let her live the rest of her life just being loved on.

Venus's adoption fee is $500
