Teeter was heading to the slaughter house with a few other pregnant mares - Velvet and Alba. She arrived at the rescue in December 2024 and she settled in to her new surroundings quite quickly. She seems happy to see us as she always ventures over to say hello. She loves to be near people but she's not fond of being touched yet. We will give her more time to just "be a horse".
Teeter's adoption fee is negotiable

This beautiful cremello mare was saved from going to slaughter while she was pregnant! She's super sweet and started off a bit aloof while she was still figuring out where she is and why her world got turned upside down. We have been able to pet her quite a bit and she is first to the fence to greet us. She's at the bottom of the herd, just gentle and minds her own business all the time.
Alba's adoption fee is negotiable

Velvet was a pregnant mare that was heading to the slaughter house with a few other pregnant mares - Teeter and Alba. She arrived at the rescue in December 2024 and took a few weeks to settle in. Today, she is very happy to see us pull up to the pasture and with the others, ventures over to say hello. We can touch her face and neck but she seemed to be unhandled when she arrived. She is super sweet, really loves being around people. She is a bit of a boss mare but gets along with the others, usually preferring to be off by herself.
Velvet's adoption fee is negotiable

Kenny is a gorgeous mare with a big personality. She is currently in training and is showing great promise. She is smart and willing but takes a little longer to trust. She is halter broke, stands tied and is foot broke and trailer broke. She's learning a lot of new things right now and as she gets more comfortable we expect she will be an excellent project horse for someone with patience and kindness.
Kenny's adoption fee is $1500 (will increase as her training progresses)

Mack is a retired riding horse and has cushings requiring daily meds. He is easy to catch, easy to trim and love attention from humans. He's a bit of a boss but loves being around mares. His kind and gentle disposition with humans makes him a very special gelding.

Ember arrived with four other horses in December 2024, with no hope and no person to love them. This gelding is about 5 years old and is a cautious boy, but once he knows you won't hurt him, he settles in for some soothing scratches and gentle pats. He is in good physical condition and is halter broke but he needs a lot of time to learn to trust so we move slow with him.
Ember's adoption fee is $750

Aponi (from the Siksika/Blackfoot word apaniiwa meaning "butterfly") in December 2024 looking defeated and confused about being moved around. This quiet mare is about 25 years old and is still quite skinny. We had her teeth done and hopefully that helps her fill her belly and put on some weight. She is getting daily senior supplements and is in fair physical condition. She is probably broke to ride but we won't test her until she's had time to decompress and relax. She gets along with her herd mates quite well, and eagerly approaches for treats and pets.
Aponi's adoption fee is $500

Meet Willow, the old grey mare that's been making babies her whole life. Willow and Moon (who is now on our Memory Wall page) came in as a bonded pair and she holds a special place in our hearts for so many reasons. Due to her age and her body condition, Willow will likely become a permanent resident at JRR unless we find the perfect forever home that will let her just be a horse. She was extremely fearful when we first met her but over several months we've been earning her trust and are able to hand feed her now. She has a very kind eye and a feisty spirit which makes her our resident warrior. She gave birth to Ivy in June 2024.
Willow's adoption fee is negotiable.
